In a majority of circumstances where it looks like POP is counting too many of something, POP is correct and your website template is adding things to your page that you didn’t know existed. Looking at the website editor for your site, or even looking at your page without the use of a tool, will often not show you correct term counts.

If you think POP is over-counting something from Page Structure, we highly recommend installing the free Chrome Extension: SEO Meta in One Click (SMOC). POP and SMOC use a similar method for counting things such as H tags, Images, Anchor Tag totals, etc.

Here is the link to the Chrome Store to install SEO Meta in One Click:

Here’s how to use SEO Meta in One Click:

1. Go to your target URL

2. Click to open SEO Meta in One Click

3. Click the tab for the signal you are counting. For example, if you are looking for H tags, click “Headers”

4. You can then see all the instances of the tags in question\

If you see that the numbers in SEO Meta in One Click and the number in POP are the same, then there isn’t any issue with POP’s number.

If the SEO Meta in One Click number and the POP number are different, let us know. Please provide the Report ID, target URL and give very specific information on the count you are seeing in POP and the count you are seeing in SEO Meta in One Click. Screenshots are usually very helpful for quick troubleshooting.

If you think POP is over counting a specific keyword or important term, you should do the following:

1. Go to your target URL in Chrome

2. Right click / control click (mac) and select View Source Code

3. Control F / command F (mac) and in put the keyword you think is being over counted

4. Review the count numbers there

You will most likely find that POP is counting things correctly and that the keyword or important term in question was placed on the page by your website template and you didn’t know it.

If the number for the keyword in your source code and the POP number are different, let us know. Please provide the Report ID, target URL and give very specific information on the count you are seeing in POP and the count you are seeing in the source code.
