PageOptimizer Pro’s Custom Silo feature gives advanced SEOs full control over how they structure, prioritize, and link their content. With this powerful tool, you can transform up to 10 target keywords or 20 competitor URLs into a complete, ready-to-implement content strategy—all within minutes.

Whether you’re building topic clusters from scratch or reverse-engineering your competitors’ success, this mode is built for pros who want full control. Inspect every metric, handpick Top Level vs Supporting pages, and engineer the internal link map with complete transparency.

Inside PageOptimizer Pro’s Keyword Strategy Tool, you’ll find two options for building your content strategy:

  • Custom Silo (for manual, advanced control)

  • AI Silo (for fully automated builds)

In this tutorial, we’ll focus on the Custom Silo option, which blends AI automation with expert human input for maximum precision.

Choose Your Inputs

On the Custom Silo screen, you have two input options:

Option 1 – Enter Target Keywords

You can paste in up to 10 target keywords you’d like to build your content plan around.

  • Each keyword input costs 1 POP credit per topic.

  • This option is ideal when you already have a defined keyword list or SEO strategy.

Option 2 – Enter Competitor URLs

Alternatively, you can paste in up to 20 competitor URLs to analyze their top-performing topics.

  • This costs 1 POP credit per 5 URLs.

  • It’s perfect for discovering keyword gaps and identifying proven ranking opportunities.

You’ll also choose your country and language before running the analysis to ensure localized, relevant data.

When your setup is complete, click “Create My Silo.”

Let POP Gather Keyword Data

Once you click Create, PageOptimizer Pro’s algorithm begins aggregating keyword data from multiple high-value sources, including:

  • People Also Ask (PAA) queries

  • Google Autocomplete (Suggest)

  • Related Keywords

  • AI-generated keyword ideas

  • Competitor keyword data

This blend of data sources ensures you’re working from both real-world search behavior and competitive insights.

Review Suggested Keywords
The tool will then generate a list of keywords to use in your silo. Review and select the keywords that best fit your content needs. Then select the keywords to include in the analysis, whether that be by content cluster or individual keywords.

If you trust certain data sources more than others, such as competitor keywords or PAA results, you can filter by those sources. You can also filter by intent type to focus on informational, navigational, or transactional queries.

The Custom Silo gives you the flexibility to:

  • Manually select keywords for precise editorial control, or

  • Let POP automatically select keywords for faster strategy generation.

This dual approach allows advanced users to balance efficiency with strategic customization.

Get Keyword Data

To generate a meaningful analysis, select at least 10 keywords from the list. Then, click “Get Keyword Data.”

POP will analyze these selections to determine the most effective Top-Level pages, Supporting pages, and internal link structure for your content strategy.
It brings back the metrics I care about on one screen: search volume, keyword difficulty, Keyword Score, Keyword Golden Ratio, SEO Competitiveness Index, All in Title, current rank and ranking URL if applicable, and keyword intent.
The cost and timing depend on the number of keywords chosen.

Keep in mind, you can start another silo while you wait.
Shape and Refine Your Silo Structure
The final output provides a fully organized content structure, complete with:

  • Top-Level pages (pillar or hub topics)
  • Supporting pages (cluster or spoke topics)
  • Suggested internal link relationships

This gives you a data-backed roadmap for building or optimizing your site’s architecture.

Advanced users have the option to shape the content silo. The Custom Silo Tool automatically assigns Top-Level and Supporting keywords based on data and intent, but you have full control to customize the structure to match your SEO goals.
Adjusting Top-Level and Supporting Keywords
If you disagree with the automatic selections, simply choose a different Top-Level keyword and reassign its Supporting pages beneath it.

  • Use the dropdown menu to move a keyword from Top-Level to Supporting or remove it entirely.
  • Click the X to delete any keyword that doesn’t fit the strategy.
This ensures every topic in your silo is intentional and aligned with your content priorities.
Evaluate Keyword Metrics
As you refine your silo, pay attention to two key metrics:

  • Keyword Score: Look for deep green indicators that signal strong relevance and optimization potential.
  • KGR (Keyword Golden Ratio): Favor low KGR terms for easier ranking opportunities.

The SEO Competitiveness Index is a proprietary metric that evaluates the level of SEO optimization for a given keyword based on two key factors: Title Optimization Frequency and Backlink Anchor Text Relevance. So this metric is a great second level to add to your analysis.

Balancing these metrics helps you build a data-backed structure that’s both high-performing and realistic to rank for.

Visualize the Silo in Map View

Once your structure looks right, open the Map View to visualize your content hierarchy.

The map provides a clear, visual representation of:

  • Top-Level and Supporting relationships
  • Internal linking paths between pages
  • Potential cross-links for additional topical depth

Review the map to confirm that the flow of authority makes sense. Supporting content links to the target page and daisy chain to other supporting content. This step helps ensure your internal linking plan is both strategic and user-friendly.

While PageOptimizer Pro’s AI does the heavy lifting, your SEO expertise adds the strategic edge.

Use the metrics, intent data, and source transparency to refine your keyword selections and ensure your silo aligns with your site’s goals.

The Custom Silo Tool in PageOptimizer Pro gives SEOs unparalleled control over keyword strategy and content architecture. By combining AI-powered research with human insight, you can create a precisely structured, SEO-optimized content plan that’s ready to implement, fast.
